POETRY TIME BLOG #3

Greetings. One of my favorite writing activities is going to fellow children's poet Laura Purdie Salas' blog (http://www.laurasalas.com/blog) and participating in an exercise called 15 WORDS OR LESS. Once a week Laura will post a photo and you have to write a poem about it in, you guessed it, 15 words or less. This is a great way to learn how, to quote the great Jane Yolen (www.janeyolen.com), make each word count. So, yesterday Laura posted a picture of a fake rooster. Here's what I came up with, enjoy!

WAKE UP CALL

Auburn shafts of light

Sneaks into view,

My alarm rings out –

“Cock-a doodle-doo!”
